When you’re under pressure, remember People are greater than Projects.
Feeling the pressure to get something done or make something happen? A healthy, Christ-centered leader always values the people involved over the completion of the project. Jesus reminded us of this in the account of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42.
On the teams you're leading, do the people know you value them and their growth more than the completion of the task?
The key to productivity is to Make a Leader not a List.
This one is related, but it's a reminder that keeps us focused on moving things forward. Often times when we feel the need or urgency to be more productive we quickly make a list of everything we need to get done. In the long term, however, we can accomplish so much more if we make a leader, not a list.
Jethro reminded Moses of this value in Exodus 18:17-23.
Who is waiting in the wings for you to develop them as a leader?
In an eternal kingdom, Success is Succession.
Figuring out how to measure success in ministry (or life in general) can be tough. We remember this value: Success is succession. We're living for an eternal reward in an eternal kingdom. In light of that reality, success is succession. Passing on your values and skills and even your followers to the next leader is success.
John the Baptist is the perfect picture of this.
What aspects of your leadership or ministry do you need to pass on to the next leader?
When growing things, you must Be Organized to grow something Organic.
There's a great book called The Trellis and the Vine that teaches and images this value. We can't make the things we're leading grow. But we can be work the soil and cultivate the environment that encourages growth! And to do that, we have to be organized with how we use the time and resources available to us.
When Jesus first sends out the 72 to do ministry in Matthew 10, there was a clear and organized plan. The growth that came out of that was completely out of the disciples control but their role was to obey the organized plan they had been given.
How can you better organize or discipline yourself to live out the Great Commission?
If you want to Go Outside, you have to be All In.
The great call of Christ Community Church has been to "go outside." The only way you can do that effectively is to be "all in" on joining Jesus in every area of your life.
Go read Hebrews 13.
Then start joining Jesus in going out to make discples - one person at a time!
